Arti dari soal adalah "Ibuku mengendarai mobil pagi tadi". Kalimat tersebut merupakan kalimat yang dibuat dari simple past tense. Pada soal diminta untuk mengubah ke dalam passive voice. Simple Past tense adalah  salah satu dari jenis tenses yang digunakan untuk menjelaskan suatu kegiatan atau peristiwa yang terjadi dimasa lampau (sudah terjadi).

Passive voice

Passive voice merupakan kebalikan dari active voice dimana subjek didalam kalimatnya akan dikenao perbuatan atau aktivitas. Sama seperti di bahasa Indonesia, kalimat pasif memiliki ciri yaitu diawali dengan awalan  ‘ter-‘ atau ‘di-‘. Di dalam bahasa Inggris ada yang namanya auxiliary verb. Auxiliary verb pada simple past tense yang digunakan dalam passive voice adalah was/were. Was digunakan untuk subjek tunggal (I, She, He, It) dan were digunakan untuk subjek jamak (you, We dan They).

1. Formula passive voice pada simple past tense (positif): Subjek + was/were + Verb III.

Contoh kalimat passive voice pada simple past tense (positif):

  • Her parent’s bike was stolen by the thief yesterday.
  • Some books were written by Dea last year.

2. Formula passive voice pada simple past tense (negatif): Subjek + was/were + not + Verb III.

Contoh kalimat passive voice pada simple past tense (negatif):

  • Her parent’s bike was not stolen by the thief yesterday.
  • Some books were not written by Dea last year.

3. Formula passive voice pada simple past tense (introgatif): Was/were + subjek + Verb III + ?

Contoh kalimat passive voice pada simple past tense (introgatif):

  • Was her parent’s bike stolen by the thief yesterday?
  • Were some books written by Dea last year?
